Kayaking Courses

Kayaking is one of the most popular forms of canoe-sport in Ireland. There are two options for Kayaking, either flat or moving whitewater.
Normally participants would start on the flat to learn the basic strokes and techniques.
Once flat water skills have been mastered participants are ready for the more challenging white water and rivers.
Rivers are graded according to an international system which runs from grade 1 (flat or slow moving water) to Grade 6 (extremely difficult and dangerous rapids).
The thrill of controlling your own kayak, through crashing waves and over steep drops and slides draws many people to this exciting recreational discipline.
The modern kayak is made of plastic and can range in length from under 2 metres to almost 3 metres long. At ULAC we pride ourselves on the courses and equipment used to take people through the different levels in this sport
.

Ashore: The shore-based sections of our courses take place in fully equipped, dedicated classroom using the most up to date teaching methods and equipment.

Afloat: The flat water courses take place on the still waters of Lough Derg which is the perfect location for leisurely trips and flat water techniques. The more advanced techniques of riding rapids and shooting weirs take place on the close by Mulcair and Castleconnell rivers. Allow us to guide you safely though an Irish Canoe approved course. A great experience is guaranteed.
